Mutts in Training are dogs that LuvFurMutts Rescue is currently fostering and rehabilitating to an adoptive state. They are not available for adoption yet. While you may be thinking we are teaching our dogs to "sit" or "stay" with the term "training" in our title, that could not be more far from what we are doing. We are taking the term training a step further and are working on their emotional and physical well-being; whether that be rehabbing them to be able to be touched by a human being or mending health issues. Most of our animals have experienced pain, loss and suffering prior to joining our rescue, so they’re desperate for love and affection. Many times, the love and security experienced by our dogs in their foster homes is the first such love and security they have ever felt. It’s the sad reality we face everyday. However, the dogs in "Mutts for Training" go beyond that spectrum. They may have been abused only for their puppies and never touched a paw on grass, or they could be so scared of human contact that we have to teach them to trust us. They are special dogs that although not being ready for their forever home yet, we are not giving up on and still giving them a chance at a happy ending. We like to think we are unique in the fact that we don't shy away from dogs that may need more time and work from us. If anything, we step up to a challenge and know that with time and love, a dog can learn to well, just be a dog again.
Although these dogs are not ready for adoption, we can always use assistance with food and supplies for them as they are in our care for a longer time. Like Ashleigh below, sometimes they can be with us for years. You have the option to SPONSOR them and provide donations towards their care. We appreciate any help and urge you to follow their updates here and on our Facebook page!

Ella
Ella is a Female Chihuahua that is approximately three years old. Despite being so young, she has already had quite a life. Ella has had 9 pups already and the shelter she came from adopted them out. Poor Ella was left all alone, but now that she is with LuvFurMutts, she will be treated like a princess until her forever family comes along. All we really know about Ella’s past is that she was originally owned by an elderly woman who let her dogs run the neighborhood (hence the puppies) and the family finally stepped in and turned them into the shelter. Since she has gotten out of the pound, she has come such a long way. She likes to play now and loves laps and belly rubs. She doesn't play too much with other dogs, but is fine with them. She will keep herself entertained with a toy. Ella is currently trying to overcome her fear of humans. We are actively working with her. Would you consider sponsoring Ella?
Ella update 12/1/16:
Ella has a favorite bed behind her mommy. When she is not in her lap she is in it. Bella has done very well and has not nipped at any mew people who have came in the house, but she is still very selective and takes time to warm up to people. Once she does, she is one loving, playful ball of fun. Ella has had an adopter come to visit her. Ella would show no interest at all. Ella needs a person who can just sit and hold her and make her their world. She would be so loyal to anyone who would take the time to let her warm up and trust them.
Ella also takes her responsibility to help to another level. She sends FB messages when mom is making lunch and as may have to put her bear down before she can truly fulfill her duties as mom's assistant.

Quin
Quin is from Reveena shelter. He ended up there with his possibly mother after being found in the home with their deceased father. The pair had been in the home with their deceased father for at least a week alone. They ended up in the shelter where they were terrified. The shelter they were in was a high kill shelter and they ended up on the euth list. That is where Luvfurmutts saw them and stepped up to pull them. The shelter thought they were a bonded pair but in reality the female, which is thought to be his mom, was a bully to him. Them being together was detrimental to Quin's emotional health, so we separated them. Since the split you can tell both were not socialized at all. Quinn was worse than the female of course. He is settling into his foster home and learning to be a dog and stand on his own four feet. He is working through his fears and learning to trust from square one, some would call Quin a feral dog. Quin is uncomfortable with human touch. He is unable to relate to dogs at this time due to being so fearful and unsure of himself. Quin may not be ready for adoption for a few months but Luvfurmutts is dedicated and will work at his pace for his rehabilitation. Would you consider sponsoring Quin?
