This is a video of Echo, our ten year old cockapoo, doing snow angels. Echo was rescued by the Luvfurmutts Animal Rescue in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Echo's owner took him to the vet at 8 yr. old and wanted to put him down. He was such a good dog that the vet just could not do it so they asked the owner to turn him over to rescue. Echo was adopted two years ago. His wonderful personality and his will to live has helped him to defeat death three times in the last two years. He was diagnosed with heart disease a year ago, but it is under control with medications, he was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph-nodes four months ago, he is now in remission. This dog is determined to live and his wonderful family is determined to do everything in their power to make the rest of his life, the best ones of his life.
WHAT NEW WITH US:
2011 was a great year for Luvfurmutts. We were able to rescue and put 86 dogs into fantastic homes. We have filed for our 501 status and should be getting it shortly. 60% of the dogs that we rescued were over 5 and special needs. 50% of our dogs went to homes with senior citizens.
OUR SPECIAL DOGS: These dogs are less desirable than most dogs available for adoption. Yet, they each have so much that they can teach a family if we could concetrate on what the dog has to offer instead of it's age. These dogs will be gifted to any family whose health will be improved by the presence of a companion pet and goes through our adoption application process. Luvfurmutts will also follow up to make sure the family can care for the pet.
BUTTERCUP is a five year old min-pin. When we rescued her in May we noticed she drank a lot of water, this how we found out she was diabetic at her young age. She is such a sweet, loving and friendly dog. Two weeks later she lost her eye sight. She has not let any of this stop her from living a full life. She plays with the other dogs, pick up nylabones and chews away, she has remained potty trained and goes to the door when she needs to potty. We have found out that when her sugar is under control, her eye sight can be restored with an operation. The rescue will pay for her surgery even if she is aodpted and her insulin is only 24.88 for a six weeks supply.
BUDDY: Buddy is 12 years old. When his dad went in a nursing home in October he was left at the vet's in a cage. Till January when the daughter called to tell us that dad was not coming home and they wanted her to put Buddy down. Cindy Boggess drove to Dayton to pick Buddy up, took him to the nursing home to visit dad and then brought him home to us. Buddy weighed 24 lbs in October. He weighed 12 when we picked him up. His legs were wobbly for a couple of days but after a few weeks of good food and exercise Buddy has turned into a puppy again. He has had a dental and is in better shape than he has been in years. (Since dad only fed him MacDonalds) He is very energetic and that will keep him living till a ripe old age. He does not want much, a little food, a few kind words and pets and a place to lay. Perferably on your lap.
Our featured dog "older" dog this month is Dee Dee. Dee Dee is a mystery as to what breed she has the most of. She weighs 18 lbs, has long legs, is 4 years old but has grey on her muzzle and neck which makes people think she is older. Dee Dee is VERY well potty trained. She is the only dog her foster mom has who will let her know when she has to go out. She would do fine in an apt or condo environment. As she is quiet and non destructive. Dee Dee is tickled to death whenever anyone pays attention to her and immediately rolls over for a belly rub.
We have just found out that Dee Dee has a class 4 hear murmur. She is on enalapril but it is only about $8.00 a month.
If you would like a friend who requires no frills and is ready to move right into your home as if she has always been there, Dee Dee is your girl!! To see Dee Dee and get more info please visit her petfinder page http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/19313249

Gigi, now Missy, found her perfect home with Janis James in Xenia, Oh.
Thought you'd like to know how Gigi (Missy) is doing. She answers to Missy and knows it's her name... and she is a MISSY... she's sassy and rules the roost! She is the funniest, happiest little dog I have ever known. I have had several dogs during my life, but Missy is simply incredible. She is now fully house broken....even asks to go out. She knows the back door is for the bathroom and stands by it when she wants to go out. She also knows the front door is for fun. If she sees me pick up my purse or the keys, she is at the door, dancing on her back legs, batting my legs with her front paws .. even grabs my shirt in her teeth and starts tugging! I take her with me to lots of places. She doesn't mind waiting in the truck. I know I will have to stop doing that now that the weather is warming. She is a wonderful companion. And, she is so incredibly funny... she is acrobatic.... runs and bounces off the furniture.... has favorite toys.... loves to play. When she sees me getting ready for work, she goes ahead upstairs and gets in her kennel because she knows I am leaving..... but she also knows the days I'll be staying home.
Thank you again for choosing me as her person. She is happy, healthy, loved and very much appreciated.
Juan Diego is a little chi who was tied to a chain in a parking lot in Covington, Ky on one of the sleetly days we had. The little fella would have froze if the policeman who found him had not gotten him to his sister and niece who kept Juan safe, got his medical work done and than turned him over to rescue to find his forever home. As you can see he is nice and toasty with his new mom and family.
(From his new Mom, Nina)
The attached pics were taken today and I wanted you to see Diego's pack. The pictured cat (Austin Kitty) was raised with a Rottie and thinks he's a dog and wants to be in the pack -- lol. Diego is doing great and is a little snuggle bug and makes us laugh many times throughout the day with his quirks and entertaining personality.
I believe that JD is where he was destined to land. He adapted almost instantly and is such a happy little guy. I'm thrilled to have him in our pack!
